Occurrence Policy

Occurrence policies offer guaranteed protection during the course of your career and through retirement (regardless of when a claim is filed). This is true whether the claim was made after the policy period expires or after you stop practicing. As a result, we find that most of our clients elect these more comprehensive policies, touting the freedom and confidence that they can bring.

It is important to note that occurrence policies can allow flexibility to move to another state, region, or jurisdiction, or even take extended time off, such as in the event of pregnancy, without purchasing additional coverage. For some, this is an important benefit.

Claims-Made Policy

Claims-made policies are another alternative for our practicing physicians and dentists. In essence, their protections and limitations are based on when the claim is made. Upon retirement, the coverage will expire unless the insured elects to purchase an extended endorsement for prior acts. Please note that most policies are jurisdictional in nature; for example, if you move to another location you may need to purchase different coverage.

In addition to claims-made and occurrence policies, Proviser offers step-into occurrence policies for new or graduating students or residents, as well as convertible policies for established professionals who may want to convert from a claims-made to an occurrence form.
